Niki Hutchison’s Business Club is an opportunity for female founders and entrepreneurs to get together and make connections in a relaxed and non sales-y atmosphere.

The aim is simple – to bring together likeminded women to support each other, share stories and answer business questions. Guest speakers feature every month and share their business stories and learnings along with what approaches or techniques have worked particularly well for them when growing their business.

On Wednesday 2nd October we welcome two successful Edinburgh entrepreneurs from the Media industry.

For Marie Owen, the CEO and owner of Edinburgh-based service production company, LS Productions, the average working day is “varied, chaotic, unpredictable, surprising and a constant learning curve.” LS Productions, which she founded as Location Scotland in 2006, has since grown into the go-to agency for national and international creatives wishing to set their fashion shoots, TV commercials and music videos in Scotland and the North of England.

Our first speaker Marie Owen is a true force of nature, having worked tirelessly to put Scotland and the North of England on the map for brands including Burberry, British Vogue, Lufthansa and Volvo. Growth has been impressive over the past three years. With the inception of a motion production department, three new LS Productions offices – in New York, London and Manchester – and the forging of international partnerships the company is looking forward to an exciting future. Marie has focused on building the company’s skills and knowledge base, and on creating a team of professionals who share her passion, drive and unstinting commitment to every client and project. As CEO Marie sees her role as one of maximising talent and results. “I describe myself as a conductor of a world-class orchestra. It’s my job to set the tone and culture of the business. I aim to be ambitious, realistic and honest and keep my focus on the bigger picture.” Marie was nominated for this year’s EY ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ and has been shortlisted for RBS’s Great British Entrepreneur Awards as ‘Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year’.

Next up is Laura Wood, co-founder of much-loved Edinburgh magazine, iOn. Whilst working as editor-in-chief on a free luxury lifestyle magazine in beautiful, sunny Marbella in the booming ‘90s, Laura saw the opportunity to take the freemium lifestyle magazine concept back to her home city of Edinburgh.

So along with business partner, Jo, the pair launched i-on Edinburgh magazine in 2005. It was an instant hit and although the business hasn’t allowed for retirement in their forties just yet, it has developed into a multi-media platform and a trusted brand with nearly half a million readers per year, all the more impressive considering the changing face of the publishing industry.

As always there will be opportunities for relaxed networking before and after our speakers as well as your chance to quiz them on how they’ve achieved their success!

I founded my business club in 2017 to bring together likeminded female founders and give a platform to those achieving great things in their industries. My goal has always been to grow a strong, supportive community and help female founders use marketing to grow successful businesses by providing strategy and proven tactics (and none of the fluffy stuff).
